Research and Development is one of the core pillars of the Forum for Strategic Dialogue (FSD). In an age of rapid ideological, cultural, technological, and social change, the Muslim Ummah requires more than emotional reaction. It requires knowledge, evidence, scholarly guidance, strategic thinking, and practical solutions rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah.
FSD’s Research and Development work is dedicated to identifying the most pressing challenges facing the Muslim community, studying them with intellectual discipline, and developing guidance, policy recommendations, and practical frameworks that help protect the Deen, strengthen the Ummah, and inspire society with Islamic values.
Our aim is not research for research’s sake. Our aim is research that serves Islam, guides institutions, supports scholars, informs community leaders, and produces real-world impact.
Why Research Matters
Muslim communities today face complex challenges that cannot be solved through isolated efforts or short-term responses. Issues such as secularism, liberalism, atheism, Islamophobia, moral confusion, family breakdown, digital influence, youth identity crisis, artificial intelligence ethics, and the normalization of values that contradict Islam are reshaping societies, education systems, media, and public discourse.
Many of these challenges are organized, well-funded, and intellectually framed. Therefore, the Muslim response must also be principled, structured, informed, and strategic.
FSD exists to help fill this gap by building a research-driven Islamic platform in Bangladesh that connects scholars, intellectuals, professionals, educators, community leaders, and institutions around shared priorities.
Through research, FSD seeks to understand the problem deeply before proposing solutions. Through scholarly review, FSD seeks to ensure that its outputs remain faithful to Islamic principles. Through policy and program development, FSD seeks to transform knowledge into action.

FSD’s Research and Development function is designed around five major objectives.
First, to identify the most urgent contemporary challenges facing the Ummah.

Key Research Areas
FSD focuses on issues that directly affect the faith, identity, morality, unity, and future direction of the Muslim community.
1. Islamic Identity and Contemporary Ideologies
FSD studies the impact of secularism, liberalism, atheism, materialism, Islamophobia, and other ideological trends on Muslim faith, family, education, culture, and public life. The objective is to help the community respond with clarity, confidence, and evidence-based Islamic guidance.
2. Dawah Strategy and Community Engagement
FSD conducts research on Dawah gaps, audience segments, communication challenges, and institutional capacity. This includes studying how Dawah can reach culturally Muslim but religiously disconnected communities, urban professionals, students, youth, families, and rural populations.
The goal is to support the development of a National Dawah Strategy Blueprint that is planned, measurable, and scalable.
3. Youth, Education, and Islamic Formation
FSD researches the challenges faced by Muslim youth in schools, universities, digital spaces, and social environments. Based on this research, FSD aims to develop practical recommendations for Islamic education, youth programs, bootcamps, leadership training, and identity-building initiatives.
4. Family, Morality, and Social Stability
FSD studies contemporary threats to the Muslim family structure, modesty, gender ethics, parenting, marriage, social responsibility, and moral development. The objective is to develop guidance and programs that help Muslim families remain strong, stable, and faithful in changing times.
5. Policy, Law, and Public Guidance
FSD examines public policy, legal frameworks, institutional practices, and national issues from an Islamic perspective. The objective is to provide responsible policy recommendations that help protect Islamic values and support the moral and spiritual welfare of society.
6. Technology, Media, and Artificial Intelligence
FSD explores how digital media, social platforms, entertainment culture, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies influence belief, behavior, education, and public opinion. The goal is to help Muslims engage with technology ethically and strategically while protecting Islamic values.

Every issue is examined in light of Islamic principles, with reference to the Qur’an, authentic Sunnah, and the understanding of recognized scholars. This ensures that our recommendations do not merely respond to modern pressure but remain grounded in the guidance of Islam.
4. Strategic Assessment
FSD evaluates the scale, causes, stakeholders, risks, opportunities, and long-term implications of each issue. This helps transform general concern into focused strategy.

Based on research findings, FSD develops practical outputs such as policy briefs, guidance documents, Dawah frameworks, training modules, community programs, institutional recommendations, and implementation roadmaps.
6. Scholarly and Academic Review
Proposed solutions are reviewed through a structured scholarly and academic review process to ensure authenticity, accuracy, balance, and practical relevance.
7. Dissemination and Implementation Support
Research findings are shared with relevant scholars, institutions, educators, policymakers, community leaders, and Dawah organizations. Where appropriate, FSD supports pilot programs, workshops, dialogues, and implementation partnerships.
